*What if every school in every city in the nation...adopts the JOHN DOE philosophy and starts a JOHN DOE Chapter to where every student wandering the halls was on a mission to help someone in need? On a mission to perform an act of kindness for someone in need in the community. ,Possibly another student, a friend, a teacher, a stranger? What if every student brought that philosophy home, outside the walls of school? What if every student, grades 1 - 12 joined together in putting someone else's needs over their own? What if the Beloit & Rock County schools led the charge, setting the example for the rest of the nation to follow?

Robinson Elementary embraces 'JOHN DOE' philosophy

*Under the leadership of 5th Grade teacher, Shawn Petitt, Robison Elementary School has adopted the humanitarian viewpoint – "What Have You Done Today to Help Your Neighbor?" – set in motion earlier this Spring by The JOHN DOE Movement. After attending a meeting put on by founder of the Movement, Michael Rorabeck, Petitt wanted to share the idea with his students: “It’s important to stress that you should do nice things for people without receiving anything in return,” whereupon he immediately took the initiative to 'Get JOHN DOE into the Schools!' by starting his own JOHN DOE CLUB, which not only included, presenting the value-system to his classroom, but also the construction of a ‘John Doe Club Starter Kit’ (which is available for download at the bottom of this page) to encourage other teachers & schools & local leaders – or even parents, friends or family members – to instill the philosophy of ‘Being Aware Of & Helping Your Fellow Man’ early on in a children’s lives…After all: “Children of Today are Tomorrow’s Future!”

*One of the other ways
in which they’re learning to reach out to others is through ‘The Million Coin Collection’ project; the goal is to collect one million coins (of any value) by May 1, 2010. Petitt keeps the receptacle in his classroom, where the children can donate at their will.

*Petitt recently received Local attention when his classroom philosophy was featured in the Beloit Daily News (please click on the Image below to read full article)!

*In addition to the many ideas & practices put forth by Petitt – he also built a website for his students (CLICK HERE to Access!) where they could become even MORE actively involved & even post Blogs to encourage one another.

*And After nearly Six Months of exercising the ‘JOHN DOE philosophy’ Petitt asked his students this holiday season to express in a drawing, WHAT the John Doe Club means to them...Click the Image Below to see their beautiful & heartwarming response!
